Although the responsible person must ensure the procedures are in place for preventing a fire and carrying out the necessary actions if one occurs, they will not necessarily carry out all of the duties themselves – often the duties are delegated to fire marshals.
As well as fire prevention, a fire marshall’s main duties include carrying out the required fire checks on items such as extinguishers, alarms and lighting, keeping the fire logbook up to date, arranging fire drills and safety housekeeping checks.
