Keeping your employees up to date with their health and safety training can be difficult, particularly when managing a large team of staff, all with different priorities and schedules. Not to mention the challenge with more staff working remotely these days.
One of the easiest ways to keep up to date with health and safety training is through online learning. In this blog, we’ll be running through our most popular online health and safety courses and how they could benefit you and your business.
First on the agenda is our Basic Fire Safety Awareness course. This is our most popular online course and is usually completed by the ‘responsible person’ for any business or non-domestic premises – often an employer, facilities manager, building manager, managing agent or risk assessor.
The course covers common causes of fires, actions you must take to help prevent fires from starting and the actions you must take should a fire start. As well as our standard course, we also offer a variation of this course specifically tailored to employees of care and residential homes. You can find out more about fire safety in our recent blog, Is Your Fire Safety Up To Scratch?
Although the responsible person must ensure the procedures are in place for preventing a fire and carrying out the necessary actions if one occurs, they will not necessarily carry out all of the duties themselves – often the duties are delegated to fire marshals.
As well as fire prevention, a fire marshall’s main duties include carrying out the required fire checks on items such as extinguishers, alarms and lighting, keeping the fire logbook up to date, arranging fire drills and safety housekeeping checks.
Our online Fire Marshall Training course is designed to provide you with the knowledge to carry out the functions of a fire marshal. Our course also includes all of the content in the Basic Fire Awareness and Fire Extinguisher courses so you’ll complete three courses for the price of one. Like the fire safety awareness course, we also run a specialised Fire Marshall for Carehomes course.
According to the HSE, manual handling is the cause of over a third of all workplace injuries including musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) such as pain and injuries to arms, legs and joints, and repetitive strain injuries. Regular manual handling training will help to protect your employees from injury.
Our online Manual Handing course covers everything from what actually constitutes manual handling and the regulations and legislation that apply to manual handling tasks to safe handling techniques and developing good habits for manual handling.
Although the use of asbestos was banned in the UK decades ago, the material still exists in many buildings constructed before the year 2000, which means that building workers still encounter it on a regular basis. To ensure workers are safe when disposing of asbestos, they must be provided with relevant and up to date health and safety information.
Not only does our online Asbestos Awareness course inform you about the risks of working with asbestos, the course also delivers information about recognising asbestos, where it’s used, minimising the risks and the legislation about working with asbestos. We also run an online asbestos course tailored towards architects and designers.
You can learn more about asbestos in our recent blog, The Dangers of Asbestos and How to Stay Safe.
According to the HSE, working at height is one of the biggest causes of fatalities and major injuries in the workplace.
Whether your job involves working with platforms, ladders or scaffolding or you employ people that do, our Working at Height online training course is ideal for improving your health and safety knowledge on the subject.
The course covers what constitutes work at height, the safety issues involved, and how to assess and reduce some of the risks. The course is an awareness course only and practical training will also be needed. At FRS, we also provide practical training for working at height and this can be arranged by contacting our team directly.
Our health and safety courses are designed to help you make your workplace a safer environment. They can be booked individually, as tailored bundles or as an unlimited package. Contact our team directly if you are interested in discussing the packages we have available.
